MEET WAYNE HOLDSWORTH

2025 Australian of the Year Award Nominee (Victoria)

Wayne Holdsworth is the founder of SmackTalk and one of Australia's leading advocates for youth online safety and digital wellbeing.

Following the tragic loss of his 17-year-old son, Mac, to suicide after an online sexual extortion scam, Wayne turned unimaginable grief into a mission to protect other families from online harms and raise awareness around the risks facing young people in the digital world.

Today, Wayne works with schools, communities, government and industry leaders to drive conversations around online safety, social media responsibility and youth wellbeing. His advocacy has helped bring national attention to the urgent need for stronger protections for young Australians online.

In recognition of his impact, Wayne was named a 2025 Australian of the Year Award Nominee (Victoria), acknowledging his commitment to creating safer online environments and helping save lives through education, awareness and prevention.
