Received an unexpected ASIC registration notice? Stop before you pay

Official-looking company review and business name renewal notices are circulating across Australia. Here’s how to identify third-party correspondence, what to do if you receive it and why SMART Business Solutions clients should contact us before taking any action.

If you have recently received a letter or email about renewing your business name, completing your company’s annual ASIC review or paying a registration fee, please pause before responding, and certainly before making payment.

Australian company directors and business owners are receiving official-looking correspondence from private businesses using names such as “Registry Australia”, “Registration” or similar variations. These communications can easily be mistaken for notices issued by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), but they are not from ASIC and you are not required to accept or pay for the service being offered.

ASIC issued a public alert on 22 May 2026 warning company directors and business name holders about unsolicited correspondence from third-party service providers. We want to ensure every SMART Business Solutions client is aware of this warning before taking action.

Not sure whether something you’ve received is legitimate?

Forward it to the SMART Business Solutions team before making payment, signing an authority or taking any other action. We will check it for you and confirm whether anything genuinely needs to be done.
